Leak Detection

Detect and Repair Compressed Air Leaks to Save Energy and Money

Do you have a leak, or might you suspect one in your compressed air system? Call R.W. Lindsay today. With over 50 years of experience, our team can help you detect leaks in no time. Compressed air system efficiency can be significantly compromised by air leaks. On average, air leaks are responsible for 20-30% loss in total air in most manufacturing plants. Call our team today for a thorough inspection and detection of leaks in your compressed air system.

Detecting Compressed Air Leaks

Leaks in hoses and tubes are common, but they often occur at connections such as couplings, pipe joints, shut-off valves, condensate traps, and filters. Here are some methods for detecting compressed air leakage:

  • Listening: Keeping an ear out for the hiss of air coming out of a compressed air line can alert you to a leak. You will have a higher chance of using this method during off hours for large leaks.
  •  Soapy Water: Adding soapy water to pipes creates bubbles alerting you to a leak. This method is the best for easy-to-reach pipes. It is not the best for pipes that are hard to get to and does not provide much about the size of the leak.
  • Ultrasonic Acoustic Detector: An ultrasonic detector listens for specific high frequencies that leaks make. It detects the leak using directional microphones, audio filters, and amplifiers.
